This month of May, our safety topic highlights the important elements of performing work with electrical components. Here at ICS, we've implemented preventive measures and health and safety practices to minimize the risk of electrical work injuries, including shocks, burns, or falls, which can occur if protocols are improperly followed.

To minimize the risk of electrical injuries, we prioritize key measures such as lockout-tagout procedures, using non-conductive tools and equipment, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and proper housekeeping on-site. Lockout-tagout involves systematically de-energizing live areas after work, with clear tagging to alert workers in the surrounding area. Non-conductive tools substantially reduce the risk of electrical shocks and when combined with Level D PPE, these practices effectively mitigate hazards for personnel arriving and leaving the job site. Mistakes can and do happen. As such, always verify a potential energy source before commencing work and look out for one another!

Our ICS Birthday - April 30th marks the exact day of Innovative Construction Solutions’ (ICS) incorporation here in California and the birth of a different kind of construction company. Our journey has been nothing short of unique and memorable, from the early days of hustling to now celebrating 25 years of building trust and lasting relationships! Thank you to our colleagues, clients, friends and family - we truly couldn’t have made it here without you and we are overwhelmingly grateful to those who have put their trust in our mission. We were especially overwhelmed with gratitude at our celebratory 25th Anniversary Party just this last Thursday, as we welcomed almost 200 guests to celebrate with us over a classy evening of fun and games at the Marconi Auto Museum (stay tuned for those photos)!

And with that, a personal thank you from our co-founders!

Hirad Emadi, P.E. – President and Co-Owner: “Thank you to our valued clients for putting your trust in ICS with your important projects; thank you to our trusted partners, vendors, and subcontractors; and, a heartful thanks to our team at ICS. You are the soul of this company, and your hard work and dedication to serving our purpose are a huge part of why we are here after 25 years!"

John R. White – Executive Vice President and Co-Owner: “25 years! I had no idea this is where we would be today! A very special thank you to all of our amazing clients for their continued trust in ICS! A big shout-out and thank you to everyone on the ICS team, you are the heart and soul of this company!”

“Our Creativity Differentiates Us!" is one of our core values here at ICS, and our NorCal project teams have showcased a prime example of their creativity in our ongoing dig and haul project (turned dig, treat and haul) in Marysville, CA. The original scope of this project called for the excavation and disposal of approximately 1,400 cubic yards of lead-impacted soil deemed Non-RCRA Hazardous (California-Hazardous) requiring disposal at a Class I landfill. However, our team proposed an alternate approach to treat the soil onsite first and later dispose of the treated soil as Non-Hazardous to a nearby local landfill delivering value in the form of a) reducing overall costs, and b) de-risking the Generator and stakeholders from long-term liability associated with disposal of hazardous waste at a Class I landfill. Way to stand out and add value team!

In a recent ICS Safety Short filmed in the hilly terrain of Southern California, Laborers Jimmy and Ezekiel spoke on the important role of spotters on construction sites and the risks they face. Spotters provide a necessary visual perspective that aids vehicle operators to maneuver safely, but by doing so they potentially expose themselves to more risk. Spotters are essential for maintaining safety on project sites with heavy equipment operation and other vehicular traffic such as end-dump trucks used for import/export of material to project sites. To spot safely, one must develop a remarkable sense of awareness of their own and others’ surroundings, both for themselves and their team. Thank you, Jimmy and Ezekiel, for emphasizing the means and methods to keep our teams and spotters safe!
